Description
PhaseShield™ Gel Tubes are centrifuge tubes pre-loaded with a density-matched phase lock gel for phenol/chloroform and TRIzol nucleic acid extraction. During centrifugation the gel forms a stable barrier above the organic phase, trapping the interphase and contaminants below it. The aqueous phase then decants or pipettes off in a single step, with up to 30% higher recovery and no organic reagent contamination.

The 200-pack is the bulk format.
Key Advantages
- Up to 30% higher recovery: recover the full aqueous phase in one pour
- No measurable carryover: organic-reagent-free fraction for downstream reactions
- Stable barrier on every spin: consistent gel layer across sample types and conditions
- Inert, heat-stable polymer: does not inhibit reverse transcriptase, polymerases, or ligases
- Reduced solvent exposure: one pour-off instead of repeated pipetting
- Drop-in compatibility: works with any phenol/chloroform or TRIzol® workflow, with minimal protocol changes
- 100% quality guarantee: if a batch doesn’t perform, we replace it free
Density Selection
Heavy — plasmid DNA, RNA, and viscous, high-impurity samples. Not for pure (saturated) phenol extraction.
Light — restriction enzyme digestion, cDNA synthesis, labeling reactions, and conventional tissue genomic DNA (except rat tail).

Centrifugation Conditions (2 mL)
| Rotor Type | G-Force | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed-angle | 12,000–16,000 × g | 1–2 min |
| Swinging-bucket | 12,000–16,000 × g | 1–2 min |
First use: centrifuge gel tubes at 12,000 × g for 30 s to seat the gel at the bottom before adding sample.
